It should be noted that under the monarchy and especially King Kalakaua, Hawaii had regular US-style currency in silver and many quarters have survived! some were gold plated and sold as sailor"s souvenirs. I Think l883 was the big year. they also had Silver Dollars, again under KK. It is possible the US mint either did not cooperate or got after the then independent Hawaiians for coming out with coins the same size and weight as US silver. I know they had Quarters and Silver Dollars, I am not sure about dimes. Of course there were custom strikes made much later to honor Liliuokalani, both during and after her reign.
