First, open the cylinder and look at the yoke (the piece that connects the cylinder to the frame). The model number should be stamped there. On some older models, however, no number was assigned: these are called "named" models, and the identification info is imprinted on the barrel. Note all of the markings, and repost. It is quite possible that you have a European revolver that infringed on the patent held by Smith & Wesson and the manufacturer did not want to be identified. S&W put several manufacturers out of business for copying "their" idea which they bought from Mr Rollin White.

It is impossible to tell with just the serial number and no other information. Handgun? Long gun? Revolver, Semi-Auto?
Sorry- not possible to answer with only that information.
You don't provide the serial number. The question can not be answered without that piece of information.
Serial number shows it is a single action revolver made someime after 1978.
if your pistol is of the model 1911 with serial number 189558 then it was made in 1917 by colt. If it is the revolver then the serial number is to high for the 1917 revolver.
$100-$450, depending on exactly what model you have, and condition. The serial number really does not give us any information.
