The "Nitro" refers to smokeless powder, so certainly not much before 1900, probably a few years later. The "and Tool" part of the name was not used after 1916.

The LeFever New Nitro 12 gauge shotgun was manufactured from 1936 to 1948. If it is in good condition, it can be worth about $400 to $500.
The old nitro hunter was made in the early part of the 20th century. Most of the guns that i have seen are pretty well used. The value of the shotgun is about the same value of a modern single barrel in the same condition. There is no real collectors value to speak of, for the old guns. A man told me that he had been offered 500.00 dollars for a Nitro hunter. I responded, "Thats where two fools met, He was a fool for offering and you were a fool for not taking it". Might be a gun for fools with little retail value, but to some of us, this gun means something. The guns were bought for survival by old timers in this part of the country. That's why you probably won't find one in mint condition just like you won't find an old plow that is in mint condition. Lots of people have these guns as heirlooms. So, to use a cliche, that makes them "priceless" to some of us.
