Most people consider cheating as a bad and unwise action. Cheating means you aren't being honest--with yourself or others. Cheating makes a person feel like they've gotten one up on another person (such as cheating in online games), or like they've fooled another person (such as cheating in a romantic relationship).

Some people say, "What's the harm in a little cheating?" "Everyone cheats; why shouldn't I do it, too?" "Cheating is the only way I can get ahead---or get what I want." The problem with these statements is, cheating can be harmful. If caught cheating on a test, that offense can earn a failing grade. In some colleges, you can be put on academic probation--or thrown out of school. Military careers are ruined by cheating; a Court Marshal is never a reward for a job well done. Employers can't trust cheats so you'd lose your job if you cheat. Cheating in relationships often results in break-ups, as it should since trust and boundaries were broken. If cheating to "get ahead", it's always a slippery slope because cheaters do get caught and when caught, you'll be further behind than you were at the beginning. And overall, when cheating in any area, you will learn next to nothing of value, whether in games, in school, in a job, or in a relationship.
