If you have laid your hand on another person agressively or in anger of course they can do you for assault- If you are the victim and your bully 'pushed' you too far then I'm afraid you have jumped straight into their trap. You should have made a formal complaint long before things got this out of hand or left the company. If you were the bully and abused someone and laid your hand on them aggressively or in anger I'm afraid you only have yourself to blame, good luck to you and seek help.
