the comparison is that they both require fighting until one of the contestants can no longer fight. the contrast is that gladiators requires killing the opponent, while it is not required in boxing. In gladiotarial fights the gladiators used swords, helmets, chains, nets,( and a trident for the death-blow, which used to be signaled by Nero by lowering his thumb) and the purpose was to kill the opponent. Boxing is an innocent kids' play when compared to gladiators' fight.

Gladiators were mainly of two types - actual gladiators (a lot like modern boxers) or prisoners of war. Actual gladiators were fighters who wished to test their battle skills as training or sport in the battle arena (eg. Colosseum in Rome). These fought until they were tired or wounded or resigned. Killing each other was a very rare occasion and these gladiators were given money by the emperor for their skills. Prisoners of war caught by the Romans were a nuisance for them. To get rid of them, the Romans thought of a bright idea. They forced the prisoners to fight against their cellmates (even wild animals) with minimal weapons. A group of people left out were later executed. These people did not know how to fight (even though the Romans tried to train them to make it interesting). In the Roman Empire, Gladiators were mostly used for entertainment; for both the Emperor and the masses of citizens at the arena. There were acrobatics in the morning then animal fighting in the afternoon, next in the evening there were gladiators that fight each other to the death and finally at night there was exotic dancers-both men and women but mostly women-then the coliseum opened again the next day.

it was used 4 entertainment people generally men) fort (AKA GLADIATORS) and on quite a few times they flooded the Colosseum and had sea battles.The coliseum was used for gladiators back in the roman times. the gladiators were mainly slaves and they fought either against each other or animals. coliseums were grand places, there top was open (curtains hung on sunny days) and rounded and many seats were available. just like giants stadium. sides were covered in valuables, including gems such as a diamond rock. animals were poorly treated and went to the bathroom wherever they pleased, as you can telll the coliseums were not very clean.
