In both Boondock Saints movies, the fraternal Irish twin brothers, Conner and Murphy McMannus lay United States issue modern pennies across the eyes of their 'victims'; this is a symbolic reference to when the dead would be given two coins for use in the afterlife to pay the ferryman for the crossing of the River Thames into the underworld.

TRIVIA: Coins of any variety are not used in the twins first murder, the self defense against two members of the Russian Mafia. In Boondock Saints 2, All Saints Day, the twins are surprised while they are boiling pennies intended for use on future victims, indicating not only that the twins prefer using clean pennies, but that pennies were a purposeful choice, and not because they were carrying them on accident previously.
