Kabuto Yakushi was found in the aftermath of the Battle of Kikyo Pass amongst the dead by a chief medical officer of the Konoha Medical Squad Unit, the officer took Kabuto with him back to Konoha and raised him as his own son, he also taught Kabuto his medical jutsu's. At some point he was captured and mind controled by Sasori who then sent him to spy on Orochimaru. But Orochimaru freed Kabuto of the mind control and persuaded Kabuto to stay with Orochimaru.
Kabuto was then Orochimaru's personal medic, assistant, and generally his right-hand man.
When Orochimaru was murdered by Sasuke Uchiha, Kabuto integrates some of Orochimaru's body into his own, so he could become strong enough so he would never serve anyone every again. But Orochimaru's body is trying to take over Kabuto's body, which Kabuto is in a constant struggle to stay in control. At the time of the Hunt for Itachi arc Orochimaru took over 1/3rd of Kabuto's body.
Kabuto is also a very cunning shinobi. His powers rivaled Kakashi Hatake on more then one occasion, and was able to fight on par with Tsunade, he even had the upper hand, though he has said he wasn't that good at hand to hand combat. Kabuto has a very extensive medical knowledge, he is only rivaled by Tsunade, Sakura Haruno, and Shizune. Finally, Kabuto has shown to be very intelligent, having 5/5 Intelligence on each of the Databook stats, and being able to trick Konohagakure for many of years, lieing to compete in the Chunin Exams.
