Ric Flair was friends and roommate with body builder Ken Patera, who got him a try out with Verne Gangne's Wrestling camp in Minnesota in the early 1970's. Flair's early days in the wrestling business were in Gagne American Wrestling Association (AWA). He started training in 1972.
