The storyline said he quit because He got mad at Cena and threatened to quit and ended up quitting. But in a interview he said he quit because he didn't like the direction that the wwe was going.
Dave Batista left the WWE because he did not like the direction the company was going in and would not be returning any time soon. Also, he is embarking on a MMA career.

He quit because he had a "broke arm and leg" and Bret hart was gonna make him wrestle so batista got mad and he said i QUIT like a big skeerdy cat hahahaha hope it helps =)

For the storyline, he said he quit because he wasn't appreciated by the company executives and fans, but in actuality. In an interview Dave Batista stated he left WWE because "he did not like the direction the company was going in". He also wants to do movies, and be in MMA.
