What can you tell me about Able and Baker?

These were US Army (and some other Paramil usage such as Merchant Marine and radio hams, usage for the letters A and B in code parlance and the equivalent signal flags. Officially they have been superseded by Alfa and Bravo (By the Army, but the older usage persists in war films such as (Combat).) as to the signal flags, Able- ap[lty named! signified- I am commencing a speed trial! (mroe recently the same flag signal has been adopted to mean (Diver down) a radically different meaning)- Able flying and lights down low- meant- slang- Stand by, we"re getting a move on! the lights down low reflecting the fact all available power being channeled into propulsion, Baker- a A red pennant, signified (and still does) dangerous cargo such as High Explosivesz or tankers in re-fueling ops. Baker flag is(all red- usually a burgee). So we had the old Army game of Able Baker Charlle-the first three signal flags. Charlie by itself inidcateed a positive affirmative response- b orrowed form the Spanish and Italian (C). Able and Baker were also code names of Chimps used by NASA in rocket shots, the older code was still in effect then.

Able and Baker were two monkeys used in the space program by NASA. They were the first living beings to survive a trip into space and return safely back to Earth. Their successful mission in 1959 paved the way for human spaceflight.
