if it's the drivers door
the is a plastic strip about 1 inch wide and 8 inches long with 3 Phillips screws
(remove)
there are 2 screws on the door handle
(remove screws)
the panel is then only held to the door by some push in "clip" plugs
pull on the panel
start on the bottom
then the sides
then lift up
the power window switch has some extra wire so you can get the panel off
but you can't get it too far away
enough to get in and work on the door handle, lock, or window
check with www.lmctruck.com for a conversion kit. otherwise,find a truck that has them and remove everything including wires and switches and transfer it to your truck

You have yo remove the door panel, if you don't know how go to you auto parts store and get a book for your truck it will show you how. The linkage is what sound like is broken.

You need to remove the door trim. It's probably the connecting rod which needs to be replaced, which isn't uncommon on a GM truck.
