The sub frame does not need to come off in order to remove the gearbox. The gearbox can be removed by removing the engine.
There are many ways to remove an engine some come out through the top, some from the bottom, some with the gearbox attached, and some split from the gearbox. Quoting a specific make and model would get you a more detailed answer
No, There's Note Enough Room In The Engine Compartment To Remove It From Above Although If You Have A Ramp And A Crane You Can Drop It From The Bottom, But This Is Not Advised. Just Remove Gearbox First And The Engine Will Come Out The Top Easily With Enough Fiddling Etc And Obvisiously With The Help Of A Engine Lift.
I don't know for this specific car, but as in most cases the engine or gearbox/transfer case has to come out. If you have access to a lift its easier to remove the gearbox and transfercase as a unit. The clutch lies just rear of the engine.

The bolt pattern is the same, but the 21R engine has 2 locator dowels, which must be accurately marked and drilled on the gearbox, if it has come from an 18R. The bolt pattern on the crankshaft end are not the same, so the flywheels are not interchangable.
remove tail shaft plate nut, pull shifters out from inside the car, then undo the bolts and it should come off easily enough.
No. If you only remove the filter about a half quart will come out.
You need to swap the engine and the tranny, use the mounts from the engine mounts from the accent, but the top mount has to come from an elantra 1.8L also, use the computer and wiring harness for the 4g63t. I put a 4g63 in a colt, basically the same car, goes like snot!
