North American trucks almost universally have inline-six engines, because we don't have restrictive length laws like those found in South America and Europe.

V8s are found on some older trucks... the Mack E9 was the last one to see fairly widespread use, and that was discontinued sometime around 2005 or so. The older Detroit Diesels were two stroke V6 and V8 engines, rendered obsolete by the introduction of the 60 Series in 1986.

Larger displacement engines (14 liters and up) in Europe often tend to be in V8 configuration, due to space restrictions as a result of length laws.
