In 2011, top scale between $30-31 per hour

Understand, however, that this is a very difficult, high-stress, physical job. The trucks are not air conditioned and the package area can reach temps of 130+ degrees in the summer. A typical route can include delivery/pickup of 400-700 packages to 130-200 different addresses regardless of traffic or weather conditions. The hours are long, with a typical 5-day work week averaging 50+ hours. Overtime isn't voluntary - you must continue working until you have completed your work, and each day you are met with production numbers detailing everything you did and how it measures up to what is expected. Those expected performance numbers, while nearly impossible to achieve in the real world, are nevertheless your lifeline to keeping your job (or not.)

The job is best suited for single folks without families who are in good physical shape and who plan to use the job as a stepping stone to another career. Few drivers make it long enough to retire.
