To change the timing belt on a 2002 Volkswagen diesel, first, disconnect the battery and remove any components obstructing access to the timing belt cover. Align the timing marks on the crankshaft and camshaft, then remove the old belt along with the tensioner and idler pulleys. Install the new timing belt, ensuring it is properly tensioned, then reassemble all parts in reverse order and reconnect the battery.
