I know of no small diesel that is imported into the U.S. Isuzu, Nissan, & Toyota all make a diesel sold in other countries.
Because Dodge wanted to sell a Diesel version if the truck. Diesels are long lived, more rugged and higher torqued than gas engines. Chrysler doesn't make one of their own. Why invent one when Cummins makes an excellent pickup sized diesel?

It seems cummins makes v8 diesels, however they seem to be of a large size (I believe i saw one in the ball park of 14 liters) but I have heard rumors of a NEW V-8 Diesel that may be used in the 2010 ram 1500. I wish they made more civilian v-8 diesels.
