I'm not sure but on my iPod touch smtp.live.com works but when I try it on my computer it doesn't work so hope I could help.

Here is something that you can try. If you are using Windows Mail clink on Tools and then on Accounts. Hi light your email address and click on Properties and then on Servers. Below "Outgoing Mail Server" Check "My Server Requires Authentication" and then click Apply and then OK. Then Close out the next box and see if you can send e-mail. If you have Windows Live Mail click on Accounts and then on Properties at the top of your page and the rest is the same as above. Hope this helps.
