From high school science class; it takes 144 BTUs to melt a pound of ice. That takes it to 32 degrees F. To then raise the temp to 72 deg., would take about 40 more BTUs.

What to do if a phone goes in the wasing machine?

Attempt to dry it out on a radiator or in the sun for a couple of days (not too hot or it will melt). But sadly, the phone is probably ruined and can't be revived.

What is the origin of shotgun shot size. I know Gauge is the number of balls in a pound of lead. Where did shot size come from?

Shotgun gauge diameter is determined by how many balls of lead the diameter of that gauge will equal one pound. Thus it takes 10 lead balls of 10 gauge diameter to equal one pound of weight. And 16 lead balls of 16 gauge diameter to equal one pound.Thats why the gauge number decreases when the diameter increases. SHOT SIZE It seems the history of shot size is uncertain. There are at least 24 different methods of determining shot size around the world. The method used in the USA currently is to subtract the shot size number from 17 and that number is the diameter in hundredths of an inch. Thus #4 shot would be 17-4=13 or .13" in diameter. Why 17, I cant find anyone who knows, so anybody know?

What is the number one concern in regards to electrical safety?

Earthing or Grounding is the most prime factor for any electrical/ electronics devices device to avoid any possible risk of electrical shock and proper neutral availability. The number one concern, is prevention of electric shock, which can kill. The secondary concern is prevention of fire. Short circuits draw massive amounts of current which can melt and set fire to the conductors.

How much would 1 psi be if it was spreaded over an area of 0.5 Sq Ft?

0.5 Sq Ft is one half of a square foot. A square foot is an area 1 foot long by one foot wide. A square foot can also be described in inches instead, so the area of one square foot is 12 inches long by 12 inches wide, or 144 square inches. 0.5 Sq Ft is half a square foot, and is equal to 144 square inches multiplied by 0.5, or one half. So half a square foot equals 72 square inches. 1 psi is one pound per square inch. If you spread 1 psi over an area of 72 square inches, you divide the pressure quantity by the area quantity: 1 psi divided by 72 square inches = 1/72 psi, or 0.0139psi.

If one pound of water is at a temperature of 32 degrees Fahrenheit, how many BTU’s must be removed in order to create a block of ice at 17 degrees?

LATENT HEAT OF FUSION When one pound of ice melts, it absorbs 144 BTUs at a constant temperature of 32°F. If one pound of water is to be frozen into ice, 144 BTUs must be removed from the water at a constant temperature of 32°F.

How many btus are required to change one pound of ice at 20 degree Fahrenheit to steam at 220 degree Fahrenheit?

1)This is a 5 part question. The first is realizing that 20F to 32F uses .5BTU per pound per degree. That means it takes 32-20=12*.5=6BTUs to get the ice to 32F. 2)Then you need to know the Latent Heat of Fusion for Ice which is 144BTUs (given). Lets assumes the ice changes from ice to water instantaneously at 32F. 3)Next we calculate the BTUs from 32F to 212F. Which is 1BTU per pound per degree F. 212-32=180 so it take 180BTUS. 4)Next we have to use the Latent Heat of Vaporization of water which will say instantaneously converts water to vapor. This takes 970BTUS (given). 5)Then we calculate the BTUS from 212F to 220F. Which is .5BTUs per pound per degree F which is 220-212=8*.5=4BTUs...... Finally add up all the BTUs and you get 6+144+180+970+4=1304BTUs.
