I'm not Microsoft, nor am i affiliated with them in any way, but I imagine their reasons are similar to these.

1. Ease of install. Not everyones needs are identical, some may need larger paging files (and thus paging file partitions) others may find they are more concerned about hard disk space than performance, so theres no one-size-fits-all solution. Therefore it would be necessary to add more partitioning and page file configuration dialogues to the install process which would confuse the less savvy.

a. The people who are more savvy already have the know-how to alter their partitions and reconfigure their page-file.

b. The people who are less savvy tend not to tax their system to maximum performance, and thus less likely to appreciate the small performance boost.

c. The people who are less savvy may be upset when their hard disk size is smaller than advertised (due to the swap partition) and may not understand the reasoning behind it.

d. People who are less savvy may see the separate hard disk letter, and not understanding its purpose, fill the partition with user data & severely reduce their system performance.

2. Longevity of hardware. The paging file obviously gets a lot of reading & rewriting, nearly constantly in fact. Putting it onto a separate partition concentrates this increased activity to one area of the physical hard disk, this could lead to early hardware failure.

How do you Format Partition with partition magic?

First select a partition you would like to format. There are three ways to format a chosen partition: a. Select Format in the menu Partition.b. Click Format button in the Tool Bar.c. Select the button Format Partition underthe group Partition Operations in the Action Panel. When using this function, you need to reset the drive letter and Cluster Size of the new partition. The scope of Cluster Size is 512 Bytes, 1KB, 2KB, 4KB, 8KB, 16KB, 32KB, 64 KB. We usually recommend you use the default size. When you use the default, Partition Wizard will work out the proper Cluster Size according to the size of the partition. Attention: Formatting will destroy all the data on the chosen partition. If the system partition or start partition is formatted, the current OS will not boot properly.

How do you repartition windows 7 with partition wizard?

Wipe partition with MiniTool Partition Wizard How to wipe partition? It is not difficult. By employing the "Wipe Partition" function of MiniTool Partition Wizard, we can delete files thoroughly and they will never be recovered. In this window, computer usage information is being shown. If the files that will be deleted are in Partition H:, we need to wipe Partition H:. Select Partition H: and click "Partition" in tool bar. Select "Wipe Partition" in the drop-down list to enter the window of "Wipe Disk or Partition". There are five different wiping styles provided. The top two styles are quick but of low security. The below three are of high security but slow. We select wiping styles according to practical needs. Take "Fill Sectors with Zero" for example. Select it and click "OK". The software starts wiping partition. The main window will be shown after wiping and we can see the effect. In this window, Partition H: has been changed into unformatted partition and its space was run out because H: are filled with new written data and the original data is overwritten. Therefore, the deleted files can not be recovered

What's the best partition scheme for dual booting Windows XP and Gentoo Linux?

Some people do not like having a separate /home partition for Linux, though it is better for recovery purposes. For the purposes of the question, it is assumed that you do not want a separate partition for your /home directory. The best performance is provided by placing a Linux swap partition first on the drive. This should be at least double the amount of RAM you have installed, but no larger than 1 GB. You will have to move the XP partition to the end of the drive after you have installed it. The partition after the swap partition should be a Linux partition. I personally prefer ReiserFS, but ext3 is slightly more popular, mostly due to the larger number of error recovery tools. The last partition should be the Windows XP partition.
