yes you can

plug it in

and it should act as a normal hard drive under my computer(or where ever)

then put your disk in and upload it

when it asks you where to put it install on the hard drive that you pluged in

make sure its not your internal hard drive

if that doesn't work then remove your internal drive and use your external so u don't get mixed up and follow the onscreen instructions

Emachine computer glitched during a power outage now windows won't load. Is there a way to pull files off of that computer Perhaps a USB to USB from other computer as if from external hard drive?

Dependably, there are quite a few ways to do this: Boot into another operating system live, such as 'Ubuntu', and start to pull the information off onto a USB device. Any Linux OS's are free to download and use. http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download Another great way is to take the hard drive out of your computer, and put it into another computer with a main hard drive already in it; this way you can just put the files onto the other hard drive, or another USB device. Either way it may take a little research on your part, but this is a fairly common issue, and is not that hard to solve Cheers, Frances

You spilled pop on your laptop and now the only thing you could get out was your hard drive is there anyway for you to get the files off without getting a new laptop?

Yes. You can get an external hard drive case and put the hard drive in that to convert it to an external USB hard disk.Your laptop would have had a 2.5 inch hard disk. Make sure you find an external hard drive case which accepts laptop-sized 2.5 inch hard disk. Also you must keep in mind what type of interface your hard disk uses. If it is SATA, you will need a case which supports it, as opposed to regular ATA-100 (now being called PATA).Put your laptop's old hard disk into that external hard drive case & bingo, its now an external USB disk that you can plug into any computer! Another answer Alternatively, you can purchase a USB to IDE cable and temporarily connect the drive to a desktop computer to retrieve your files.

Do external hard drives copy dvds?

External hard drives do nothing on their own. Their purpose is for you to put data onto them. You could very well copy DVDs and put them on the hard drive, but they aren't going to do that by themselves.

What are the advantage and disadvantage of external and internal parts of the computer?

Well as you may know an internal hard drive is inside your computer and stores just about all your computers' info. But you may have information on there that you want to take to your friends house, so you would put the info on your internal hard drive on an external hard drive, then put it on your friends computer instead of taking in and out your internal hard drive. So really bottom line here and external hard dirve is a more portable hard drive and easier to carry around.

Using 3.5 external Hard Drive with notebook?

I'm going to assume you want to use the old drive as a secondary drive for this answer. Get an external USB hard drive enclosure which is compatible with your "old" drive. CHECK ON THIS, there are several types of hard drive (SCSI, IDE, EIDE, and SATA) and you need to be sure the enclosure and drive are compatible. (Cost: around $30-$40)Put old hard drive in new external case, plug in power source, plug USB into laptop. Plug 'n' play (uPnP) will recognise drive and incorporate it into devices.

How many documents does 16 GB external hard drive hold?

It depends on how large the files that you put on it are. I have a 2GB flash drive, and I put on it a ton of files. 16GB is a lot of capacity.
