∙ 6y agoMany routers, incuding all cisco products, use a special cable to carry a terminal session between the serial port of a connected computer and the "console" port of the router (looks like an RJ45 but is wired differently). Cisco includes a custom cable with every router... it is almost alway a flat blue cable with a db9 on one end and an rj45 male on the other. Internally it is a "rollover". Pin 9 goes to 1, 8 goes to 2, 7 goes to 3... etc. Once connected you use a terminal emulator like putty.exe or terraterm.exe to open the session.
