In general, unplugging your modem will not have any impact on your network bandwidth. However, there are occasions when restarting your modem will increase the amount of network bandwidth available to the computers on the network.

It is possible for the internal software (or firmware) of the modem to enter an inconsistent state, resulting in less effective bandwidth caused by corrupt or lost network data. In most cases, unplugging the device causes it to restart and full bandwidth is restored.

You use a PC modem to connect to the Internet. It will generally connect through to your Internet Service Provider (ISP). It allows either one computer - or a group of computers which are served by the same router - to connect to other systems. Its designed purpose is a) to send information outwards and b) to receive information inwards and to do both of those things at the same time.

What is a smartcp modem?

What is SmartCP?SmartCP in simple terms is a computer modem feature or function. Some modems have this function built directly into it's firmware. (i.e. "PCI Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP"). What SmartCP does:The purpose of SmartCP is to allow the modem to resume retrieving or downloading large files should the connection or download become interrupted and or disconnected. Instead of wasting valuable time downloading the portion you have received before the transfer was interrupted, SmartCP transparently continues the download from the last know good point. Anyone who has spent many hours or even days downloading a file only to find that they have been disconnected with only 99% of file received knows the thought of all time in anticipation going to waste makes SmartCP a welcome addition to the modem.SmartCP History:Prior to SmartCP less than successful attempts were made to solve the 'resume download' problem via software and software protocols. Lack of a proper industry standard meant that many sites, services and software packages were either incompatible with each other or did not support the option at all.

Do you stay connected to broadband all the time after installation?

It is not recommended that the broadband modem be disconnected at any time. The one exception is when you powercycle (unplug, hold it out of electrical outlet for a minute) to reboot the modem. The modem is designed to stay on at all times, but you can turn your computer off, if you want.

Would it work if you connected an Ethernet cable to a modem and then to a ps3 to play on line?

If for instance you have a PC connected to the internet with an ethernet cable at a cable modem you can unplug the ethernet cable to the PC at the modem and Plug in a ethernet cable from the PS3 to the modem and a connection to the internet is possible. If the PC and PS3 are close enough you can just unplug the PC ethernet cable at the PC and move it over to the PS3. The first time you do this you need to go to the PS3 network setting and auto set the network settings. When you are done using the PlayStation 3 you just unplug the ethernet cable for the PS3 from the modem and plug the PC cable back into the modem for the PC to go back online or switch the cable back if it was close enough. When you get tired of doing this just purchase a router and plug the PS3 and PC into the router and plug the router into the modem.

Can YouTube ban your IP address?

Yes and No. They can but it would be pointless because you can always change your IP-Address by reconnecting your Internet Connection (unplug your Internet-Modem). And your IP-Address would probably be assigned to someone else after some time, so it doesn't make sense to ban IP-Addresses.

When do you need to replace your DSL modem?

If your DSL connection keeps failing, then yes, it might be time to replace the modem. It's especially a good time if you've had that modem for a really long time - say 5 years or more - because your DSL provider is most likely updating their service every now and then, and you might end up needing to upgrade anyway.
