If you are refering to a claymore mine, it is a shaped charge device. a curved metal container holding an explosive charge, and ball bearings. when the charge explodes, the curvature of the mine body channels the charge in one direction, and propels the ball bearings out in that direction. They are actually marked on the casing " towards enemy ".
