The Vietnam War was the last US war in which the (M48) Patton medium tank was used, consisting of: a mechanical computer for gun ranging; the optical coincidence range finder; homogenous steel armor; a diesel engine; Xenon searchlight (white light); 90mm medium main gun; and a painted white star on the turret (National Insignia). 21st Century tanks use: Computers to control the firing of the 120mm smoothbore main gun; Lasers for range finders; Night Vision Devices; classified synthetic armor; a jet turbine engine; and either a sub-dued black star painted on the tank, or no star at all for it's National Insignia.
