A programmer basically tells the robot what to do, in basic terms. They tell the robot what to do when say a joystick is turned, or if there isn't a joystick, they tell it what to do on its own. They write lines upon lines upon lines of code, and they can be very complicated, but I've heard that once you get used to it it's very fun.
There are many different softwares used to build robot txt. There is the Robots.txt Generator, which is a more robust program developed by SEOs for regular people. One can also build it using notepad or wordpad if one knows what to write.

And also after several hundred years ...the robot brain will not be able to compete with the humans.......because we humans are unique...........but if the brain is totally captured then it will become much easier to make robots like humans and to destroy humans..................! Latest innovation in the field is RoboFisher, which allows you to control a robot from your computer or mobile device. The robot is fishing in a real lake and you may control the entire process. Just genious.

It sounds like you are using an NXT unit, but to make a line follower, you don't find the distance between the robot and the line, you find the line and center it under you. I would recommend using the light sensor because it will allow you to find the area where the line is darker than the surrounding surface. Then, whenever the line is not centered under your robot, you have it go back and forth until it finds it.

It always need a path to run either white or else since the IR rays should reflect from the particular path (color mostly used white on black).
One example might be in a warehouse where the robots follow 'tracks' to and from the shelves they stock and retrieve from.
a line following robot follows a black line about 3/4 inches in width on a black surface. these robots are usually used in compititions. according to rules, the robots are raced one at a time and the robot with the shortest time wins. the curves in the lines must be 4 inchces or more in diameter
