Using computers too much causes our ability to function independently without any form of aid or assistance to diminish considerably. Without computers, some people can barely think for themselves as the computer carries out all their commands. They would rather search a word on Google, than use a paperback dictionary. They opt for a cooking class on YouTube rather than the tedious task of actually attending one at the local community centre. When people need help in calculations, they resort to using calculators.

People also organize their schedules on phones and as a result are less able to manage time on their own. Students depend on Microsoft applications for typing out essays. In examinations, where hand written scripts are required, this becomes an issue as the students are not able to write as quickly and legibly as a computer does. Research plays an important part in a student's continual progress and development through the gaining of new knowledge. Wikipedia speeds up the process of acquiring new information needed for projects and assignments. However, we cannot be certain that the information acquired is really authentic or accredited by qualified experts. We can trust the information in books and articles from journals as a full profile of the source is given.

To further support my argument on why excessive dependence on computers is detrimental, let us look at even more downsides. If you were working on a project when the computer suddenly decided to crash, all your data would be lost and you might not be able to do anything to salvage your hard work.

Computers can sabotage people's ability and skill to communicate effectively as the computer deprives them of face-to-face experiences and human interaction. When they leave the virtual world, they may encounter difficulties communicating with others. Youngsters these days spend hours on online forums, chats and social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter which given them the opportunity to express themselves freely. This freedom comes with a price. People tend to use simple, fragmented colloquial expressions to communicate online which is totally different from face-to-face communication. As the responses are short, the reaction time to type them out is extraordinarily fast. This may cause them to expect just as quick responses in daily conversations and tasks which may not be possible for many who take time to form what they want to say before expressing their thoughts verbally.

At the mere mention of computers, some pupils' faces instantaneously light up. Children have always thought that computers are meant for amusement and as an escape from the stressful reality of a student's life. Little do they realize that their fondness for this piece of ultra cool technology may result in them getting addicted and thus ultimately causing a sharp drop in their academic results. Even students at primary one level have Facebook accounts and spend huge amounts of time on the computer, instead of quality time with their family and friends.

In conclusion, despite its many benefits, we should not be overly reliant on computers. We should, as much as possible, maximize our mental and physical abilities outside the realm of the computer. We should not rely too much on computers as they lower down our skills of communication and get addicted to computer games.

Rationalism and Empiricism are two different approaches to the same thing - understanding this world. An advantage of Rationalism is that there is an explanation or reason for everything. A disadvantage is that these reasons and explanations are not always infallible. An advantage of Empiricism is that human senses do not lie, leading to more credibility for Empiricist theories. A disadvantage would be that sense perception is not universal.

Is dependence on computer a good things?

It's good in that boring tasks are done by computers, saving time and money for the organization. Computers urge humans to think of better designs for software, programs. The accuracy and efficiency aid society in most aspects. Still, total dependence isn't good. A program, switch, should always be installed to correct an error, failure. Humans should be equipped to take-over in the event of a malfunction.
