Case- houses all the internal parts of the computer

CPU- Central Processing Unit- The main "brain" of the computer. it does most of the calculations and handles all of the data and controls what is done with that data

Mobo- Motherboard- the largest PCB (that green board) which houses the CPU along with everything else that is in with the computer. it contains ports in which everything else plugs into

HDD- Hard drive- Stores all the data for the computer. This houses the OS (operating system- which is what you see every time you turn your computer on) along with any files, photos, games, etc. that you store on your computer

RAM- similar to the hard drive except it holds much less information. all data on this is erased when power is shut off. this is used to store small amounts of information so that it is readily accessible when needed. this data transfer is far faster than a hard drive because there are no moving parts that need to move to locate a file on a spinning disk (although there are hard drives coming out that dont have moving parts, called solid state drives)

---the following components are not necessary for the computer to run, but they can increase performance and functionality---
- --the following are PCI cards that are made from PCB (same as the motherboard) which plug into the motherboard perpendicularly and go into expansion slots---

Network adapter- allows your computer to work with the internet

Graphics card- adds another processor to the computer (like the CPU) which is made specifically to handle graphics. these are usually only needed for playing games or doing design work on the computer

Sound card- similar to a graphics card except it is designed to handle sound

there are numerous other cards which can be added to perform different functions but these are the most common.

outside of the computer, there are things such as mice (the thing you point and click with), a keyboard (what you type with), speakers/headphones (where you hear sound), and a monitor (what you look at), alond with other devices that cn be plugged in to perform different tasks
