What does ''rate-limited'' mean when talking to your friends on aim?

it means you've been sending too many im's at the same time so try again in a couple of hours, I've been rate limited and i cant talk to anyone its so anoying and stupid but go along with it. if you try in a couple of days and it still doesn't work then make a new account.
