Hardware for the internet can be defined as the tangible items needed to allow a user access either by direct connection or through a dial-up connection to a host computer. The first connections involved mainframe computers and telephone line connections. Since then the innovations in computer technology involving the personal computer, ISDN and cable lines to connect to the Internet have allowed for a tremendous increase in users and speed of connections. (On the web page I will include a timeline of the innovations that have greatly impacted the use of the Internet). Since connection speeds are now much faster than in the past, the designers of web pages have many more options available to them in designing their product with video and audio more likely to be used than in the first designed sites.
In researching hardware and its impact on the design of web pages, we have found that the type of hardware directly affects the type of software options one has, and therefore, the design possibilities of a web page. For instance, if one has a scanner, which allows inclusion of documents that are not currently on the computer to be added to a web page, one would also need compatible software to complete the task. In other words, one without the other is not a functional product. Just as a computer is only a box until software is installed, the additional hardware is just a paperweight until it has the correct software that allows for its intended use.
The distinction between software and hardware is sometimes confusing as they are so integrally linked. Clearly, when one purchases a program, they are buying software. But to buy the software, one also buys the disk (hardware) on which the software is recorded. Software is divided into two broad categories. "Systems Software", which includes the "Operating System" and all the "Utilities" that enable the computer to function, and "Application Software", which include programs that do real work for users. For example, word processors, spreadsheets, and database management systems fall under the category of application software. Software that has been written onto read-only memory (ROM) is called "Firmware." Firmware is both a combination of software and hardware.
NIC card, a PC, connection to the internet (cable)??
Asking this question is a bit like asking what things you need to pack to go on holiday: it all depends on what you want to do, and exactly how you want to do it!
You can connect to the Internet using a telephone landline, a fiber optic cable network service or "wirelessly" through the air, using radio channels.
You can do it using various different electronic devices:
The above list is only intended to give you a rough idea of the kinds of things you need to have - and must learn how to use - in order to hook up to the Internet. It is by no means a complete list!
Maybe someone else will have the time to add more details to this short answer...
In addition to an operational desktop, server or laptop computer you will need:
For an older style dial up connection you will need a modem and active phone line. Your ISP will probably supply you with software to automate the setup.
The more common broadband connection will require hardware from your ISP (DSL modem, Cable modem or wireless modem) and the proper connecting cables. Usually this will all come in a single package.
To access a wireless internet, whether via a DSL connection or with a cable modem, a wireless router is needed. In most cases, one wireless router is sufficient to create a wireless network for a home.
you would need a:
modem and a ISP (internet service provider)
i think?
i think the the type of equipment to access the Internet is wi-fi
The main equipment you need to set up laptop wireless internet access is a functioning wireless adapter and a router connecting to the internet. You also need to be in signal range of the router.
Each computer needs a network card (NIC); you need a hub or switch; and for every computer you need a network cable to connect to the switch.
A person will need an outlet in order to plug a computer in order to have a computer working in a lab. They will also need the cords to hook the monitor to the tower.
DSL Internet should be easy to set up on your own after connecting to an Internet service provider. If you should need assistance, the customer service number from your Internet provider should be of great help.
Login is when you type in your account name and password To get your account name and password you need to "Sign Up"
You need a modem and a router to set up DSL internet. You do not need any particular brand of equipment, but you will also need cords and plugs to ensure that you can get power for your new equipment.
You need a ethernet cable and a router.
You need internet service from DSL or cable
how do you hook up wireless internet service
You can have any internet for the ps3, although I'm not sure about dial up. If you have nonwireless internet, you will just have to hook up your ps3 to the internet.
how do you hook up to wireless internet service?
No, if you can get a converter to hook up you can use a regular Internet cable but they are sort of expensive.
You don't you need an internet service like cable or DSL
You need an ethernet cable to plug into the internet port. Then you need to register/buy internet services in order for it to work. Once you do all of that then you can use the internet as much as you want.
If you have a secured network, you will need the password that you chose when setting up your internet service with your provider. Otherwise, you will not need anything; you just have to connect to the network.
You will need a composite in connection to be able to view the PS2 in the minivan.
