7805
is a voltage regulator integrated circuit. It is a member of 78xx series of fixed linear voltage regulator ICs. The voltage source in a circuit may have fluctuations and would not give the fixed voltage output. The voltage regulator IC maintains the output voltage at a constant value. The xx in 78xx indicates the fixed output voltage it is designed to provide. 7805 provides +5V regulated power supply. Capacitors of suitable values can be connected at input and output pins depending upon the respective voltage levels.

IC voltage regulator performs better than any analog voltage regulator. Some IC regulators IC no. are given below- Positive IC voltage regulator- 78xx Negative IC voltage regulator-79xx where xx varies according to the use of ICs raring. as 7805 gives the positive 5 Volt & 7905 gives the negative 5 volt.
The purpose of an adjustable voltage regulator is to have a regulator that can give out variable voltages. This is in contrast to a fixed voltage regulator which only outputs one voltage, which it is rated for. To allow for adjustable voltage, usually the resistors on the output of the regulator just need to be swapped for different values to give differing output voltages.

in ic 7805 their is two capacitor is used one of them is used for the settling/transient time and another is used to provide inductive effect....
A: an lm7805 Is a positive regulator if enough voltage is available it will regulate to ~5 volts that is only purpose no matter how it is used.
The 7805 regulator IC has three pins; input, output, and ground. The case is also a pin, but it is grounded, so there are still only three pins, for all practical purposes.
It will be 7805 in which 7 is company code; 8 means positive voltage & 05 is amount of positive voltage output.
The 7805 is a standard 5 volt regulator with a voltage input, a regulated 5V output and an earth reference. With no load on the 5V output, the current drawn by the regulator is nor more than a few milliamps. The actual figure varies from one type to another. Once a load is added to the 5V output, the current drawn from the battery is the same as the current drawn by the load itself (plus the few milliamps drawn by the regulator itself). As an example, if the load current is measured at 1 amp, then the current drawn from the battery will also be 1 amp. If current draw is a problem, then consider a switching regulator instead of a linear type. Switching regulators will be more efficient and for a 1 amp load, it is possible to see only a 0.6 - 0.7A current from the battery itself. as well as conserving battery life, the regulator will also generate less heat than the 7805.

no, zener diode regulators can supply no more than a few tens of milliamperes to a load while maintaining stable regulation. a 7805 three terminal linear regulator IC is designed to provide up to 1 ampere to a load while maintaining stable regulation.Note: three terminal linear regulators like the 7805 already contain an internal zener diode acting as a voltage reference, but its internal load is only 1 or 2 milliamperes to keep it very stable.
A voltage regulator. Examples are the 78dd series of regulators where dd is the voltage, e.g. 7805, 7812. These work with a positive rail, the 79dd regulators work with a negative rail.
