Token ring hub
A device that allows information to traverse different networks. Generally these are Layer 3 devices and a router is a perfect example of an internetworking device. A (basic) switch is NOT an internetworking device because information cannot be sent to a different network.
Best Path Algorithm, also known as Path-Vector Routing Internetworking with Cisco and Microsoft Technologies pg. 297 If you are in net+ 3rd edition like me, I do not belive this protocol is mention which leads me to believe the answer we are looking for in the study guide is Distance Vector, since BGP is a distance vector protocol. It can only be one of two in this case afaik, distance vector or Link State. :)
Greetings; The Internet is just what it says; "Internet"Internetworking involves linking two or more computer networks by way of gateways using a widespread routing technology. The product is called an internetwork (often shortened to internet). The most prominent example of internetworking is the Internet, a network of networks based on numerous underlying hardware technologies, but combined by an internetworking protocol standard, the Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP). http://en.wikipedia.org The Internet is neither a Public nor Private Network, but can be categorized as both. It is a "network of networks" that consists of millions of private and public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scale. If a private network wishes to connect to the Internet, it must use either a Network Address Translation (NAT) gateway, proxy server. Private and Public networks obtain access to the internet through ISPs (Internet Service Providers) that provide a direct connection from the Private or Public Networks to the Internet. The connectivity can be through a variety of technologies ranging from dial-up using a landline telephone and modem to Wi-Fi and handheld devices (Smartphone's, game console, etc.). ISPs themselves are connected to one another through Network Access Points (NAPs). TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) is the basic communication language or protocol of the Internet. It can also be used as a communications protocol in a private network (either an intranet or an extranet) when a Private Network sets up access to the Internet using a Private Internet Exchange which is a type of secure hardware firewall developed by Cisco Systems. It will translate network addresses, so the internal network can use IP addresses of its own choosing without worrying about clashes with IP addresses in the worldwide Internet. The TCP/IP model is a description framework for computer network protocols created in the 1970s by DARPA. TCP/IP provides end-to-end connectivity specifying how data should be formatted, addressed, transmitted, routed and received at the destination. Protocols exist for a variety of different types of communication services between computers. TCP/IP has four abstraction layers 1.Application Layer (process-to-process): This is the scope within which applications create user data and communicate this data to other processes or applications on another or the same host. The communications partners are often called peers. This is where the "higher level" protocols such as SMTP, FTP, SSH, HTTP, etc. operate. 2.Transport Layer (host-to-host): The Transport Layer constitutes the networking regime between two network hosts, either on the local network or on remote networks separated by routers. The Transport Layer provides a uniform networking interface that hides the actual topology (layout) of the underlying network connections. This is where flow-control, error-correction, and connection protocols exist, such as TCP. This layer deals with opening and maintaining connections between Internet hosts. 3.Internet Layer (internetworking): The Internet Layer has the task of exchanging datagrams across network boundaries. It is therefore also referred to as the layer that establishes internetworking, indeed, it defines and establishes the Internet. This layer defines the addressing and routing structures used for the TCP/IP protocol suite. The primary protocol in this scope is the Internet Protocol, which defines IP addresses. Its function in routing is to transport datagrams to the next IP router that has the connectivity to a network closer to the final data destination. 4.Link Layer: This layer defines the networking methods within the scope of the local network link on which hosts communicate without intervening routers. This layer describes the protocols used to describe the local network topology and the interfaces needed to affect transmission of Internet Layer datagrams to next-neighbor hosts. (cf. the OSI Data Link Layer).
