Why do you need a static IP address to use a remote desktop?

It's not true. You can use a dynamic ip address to use remote desktop! Problem with dynamic ip addresses is that it can be changed any time, and you will not able to connect to your PC. The best way is to use full computer name. It does not depend on ip address.

How can a public IP address be changed to a private IP address?

I believe the question is irrelavant. First, let's start off by explaining what is an IP. IP is short for 'Internet Protocol'. So the IP address is used to identify machines to each others at the 'network' layer in OSI layer terms. Machines connected to each others form a LAN or a WAN. It's the connection between thousands of machines which creates the internet. a machine may be connected to a LAN that is not connected to the internet backbone. This makes the machine private. However, as this machine wants to access machines on the internet backbone, a protocol called NAT (Network Address Translation) is implemented on an intermediate machine itself connected to the internet, and would impersonate the original machine in its requests and its response, playing effectively the role of a gateway. With that said, a public ip identifies a machine connected to the internet backbone. If this machine is connected to other machines, it may identify itself through the LAN created between them, This identification may use a public ip or a private IP. If the purpose of the user is to no longer have this machine visible to the internet backbone, he would simply assign a private IP to it, in a way its peers can relay traffic to it by being on the same network, or route traffic to it through an intermediate router. Advantages of setting up ip address manually?

In a LAN, setting up an ip address manually (which makes it a static ip address) ensures that the ip address won't be automatically changed on that machine. Makes it ideal for servers or administrative computers.

How can you get the IP address for an email address?

An e-mail address is not associated with any specific IP address. The only IP address that you can obtain from an e-mail address is the SMTP server that initially delivered the e-mail, not the machine from which the e-mail originated. The e-mail headers may contain the IP address of the original machine, however bear in mind that e-mail headers can be easily forged.

Do you have to use Auto-Obtain IP Address?

That is mainly used for larger networks. For a home network, just assign the IP address manually.Auto-obtaining an IP address requires configuring a DHCP server - the machine that will assign those addresses, out of a specified address pool. That is mainly used for larger networks. What IP address for loopback function with single machine on a network?

The loopback address for each machine is 127.0.0.1, regardless of how many machines are on the network.

What are the functions of IP?

The function of an Internet Protocol (IP) are given to every mode (a machine) that connects to the internet. The machine can be a printer, a computer, fax machine and many others. Each mode is given an IP which connects to the router, which connects to the modem. The purpose of the IP is like a home address and the postal mail. In this example IP will mean where you live (your home address). Postal Service means Internet. Modem will mean your country province and city. Let's say someone is sending a letter to you. The Postal Service needs to know your address and where you live. They write your name, and your address on the card and send it away. The postal service then gets the letter and knows your address (IP). It sends the letter to your address to then be picked up by you (the computer) in order to recieve a connection.

What is dhcp spoofing?

DHCP Spoofing is a Man-in-The-Middle technique whereby the attacker responds to DHCP request message, providing the target with an IP address and also setting the attacker's IP address as the gateway address of the victim machine, thereby relaying all traffic from the victim's machine via the attacker's machine.
