An Atom
Elements are commonly referred to as the basic building blocks of all matter. This is because you cannot break them down any further and still maintain a whole atom. Once an element is broken down, you have protons and neutrons.

Probably both. BASIC is a programming language. It stands for Beginner's All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code. You can read more about the programming language here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BASIC I'm sure there are computer courses that use the word "Basic" in the name too - like Basic Computing perhaps.

An atom is a fundamental building block of matter. It consists of a nucleus composed of protons and neutrons, surrounded by electrons in orbit. Atoms combine to form molecules, which make up all substances found in the universe.

An "Atom" is the basic building block of all molecules [first] and [then] biomolecules.
quarks or stings in the string theory but if you do that as a home work... atoms or electron/proton/neutron should do the job.... depending what you have yet learnt.
