Wireless is just that; it's a wireless connection to your modem or router, which works by sending information through the air, much like cell phones or radio. By that same token, it is subject to interference, and people other than yourself may be able to remotely access your internet connection if they can get past whatever security you've set up for it.

Ethernet cable on the other hand is a physical cable for sending the same information; because it is not subject to the same interference as wireless, it is more reliable. Furthermore, if you make it so that you need to physically connect with a router, you can completely prevent the above scenario of someone hacking into and using your Internet connection through wireless.

However, getting that physical connection can be arduous in a household with multiple computers because you need to find a way to get the cable from those computers to the router; avoiding this one-time hassle is why many people choose to use wireless instead.

Suppose you have a computer with its Ethernet port used for a service other that internet. There is no way to combine services to the same router. how can this computer gain access to internet?

The easiest way to solve this problem: use a wireless connection. Many recent computers include a wireless NIC (network interface card), and can connect to wireless networks easily, leaving the Ethernet port free. This will only work, obviously, if this computer has a wireless card and there is a wireless network to connect to.If wireless is not an option, purchasing an additional Ethernet card will upgrade the computer to owning two Ethernet ports. One port can be used for the Internet, the other for this external service.

What purpose does a NIC serve in a networked device?

A Network Interface Card helps provide an Interface (or access) to network resources, the internet, and networks outside your LAN (local area network.)In computer networking, a NIC provides the hardware interface between a computer and a network. A NIC technically is network adapter hardware in the form factor of an add-in card such as a PCI or PCMCIA card. Some NIC cards work with wired connections while others are wireless. Most NICs support either wired Ethernet or WiFi wireless standards. Ethernet NICs plug into the system bus of the PC and include jacks for network cables, while WiFi NICs contain built-in transmitters / receivers (transceivers). Also Known As: NIC also stands for Network Information Center. For example, the organization named "InterNIC" is a NIC that provides information to the general public on Internet domain names.

What type of cable would you use to connect a pc nic to an rj45 Ethernet port of a cisco router?

cat 5 Ethernet cable

Which bus type should you use for a NIC that will be connected to a Fast Ethernet network?

Which are two types of nic's?

Ethernet NIC: A network interface card (NIC) designed to connect a device to an Ethernet network using an RJ45 port. Wireless NIC: A network interface card (NIC) equipped with wireless capabilities to connect a device to Wi-Fi networks.

What type of connection does a nic have?

A network interface card (NIC) typically has a physical connection to a network, such as Ethernet or wireless. This connection allows the NIC to communicate with other devices on the network.

Does Wii Have an Ethernet Port Built In?

No. You must either get a USB adapter or use a Wireless connection.:)Another, more accurate answer. The standard Wii comes with a wireless NIC built in. You may need to configure the Wii and/or your wireless router to make it work.

What cable do i need to use my laptop with high speed internet if its not wireless?

Assuming it has a nic card (ethernet port) you can just use any CAT6 cable (ethernet cable/network cable). Any local computer store should have them.

A nic's transmission characteristics are held in the adapters?

In a computer network, the network interface card (NIC) is responsible for transmitting and receiving data. The transmission characteristics, such as speed, duplex mode (full or half), and supported protocols, are maintained by the NIC's drivers and firmware. Adapters (physical or virtual) help connect the NIC to the network medium, such as Ethernet cables or wireless signals.

What is wireless card?

a "wireless card" is a network card that receives a high frequency signal from a wireless router or wireless access point. Same as an Ethernet Card/Network Interface Card(NIC), only wireless. A wireless Card is a network card which connects to a radio-based computer network, unlike a regular network interface controller (NIC) which connects to a wire-based network such as token ring or ethernet. A wireless Card, just like a NIC, works on the Layer 1 and Layer 2 of the OSI Model. A wireless Card is an essential component for wireless desktop computer. This card uses an antenna to communicate through microwaves. A wireless Card in a desktop computer usually is connected using the PCI bus. Other connectivity options are USB and PC card. Integrated WNIC's are also available, (typically in Mini PCI/PCI Express Mini Card form).

What is the difference between a recently industrialised country RIC and a newly industrialised country NIC?

The difference between a RIC and a NIC is the time period. It is still rather vague, but a RIC is more likely to have been industrialised for a longer time period than a NIC.
