Silicon, its cheap and nearly ideal.
Many other things have been tried, but none has really seen widespread use due to one or more difficulties that occurred. Gallium Arsenide is expensive and has mostly been limited to use in high priced supercomputers where the speed improvement justifies the cost. Diamond & graphenes & carbon nanotubes all still have process problems. Silicon-Germanium alloy has seen some use, but not so much in digital devices.

If it is programmable, the first thing you have to do is ensure that the computer you will use to program the chip has the right interface required to connect the chip and transmit to it. Traditionally, chips used to have serial connectors attached to the breadboard, but more recently, USB connectors are used on commercial chips such as the arduino devices. Once the chip is hooked up to the computer and is ready to receive the input, the programmer has to make sure of two things. First, it would be convenient for him to be familiar with a standardized programming language which he could use to write the program of the chip. Then, given he has a preference for a particular language, he needs to ensure that he has the right interpreter software that can communicate directly to the chip by translating the human friendly code into machine code, which basically is a sequence of 0s and 1s. Having the right interpreter is very important as it has to match the language that is being used to write the program. Once these requirements are met, write away!
The first microprocessor to make it into a home computer was the Intel 4004. This chip could process 4 bits at one time. -Harry Dingleberry
Advantage: You need both the chip and the PIN to make successful transactions in store. Disadvantage: Cards are easily cloned, and people can be careless when using their PIN.
Computer chips are built on a slice of silicon. Silicon forms the basis of transistors which make up a complete circuit. The circuit is photo etched onto the silcon forming complex circuits containg transistors, resistors, capacitors and diodes. The silicon is grown as a single crystal. The crystal is then sliced into thin wafers, onto which the circuit is etched. These resemble a sliced potato or CHIP.
No.
google "how to make chip bag wallet"
its a folded chip that you get to make a wish on! :D
Diamond is a substance (technically, in practice diamonds will have some amount of impurities, so technically they're mixtures, but we'll ignore that). The fact that it's in "chip form" doesn't make any difference.
The substance (usually a liquid) that can dissolve another substance is called a solvent. The substance that is being dissolved in a solution is called the solute.
It depends on which part of the potato they cut to make it and if the chip cracks into smaller pieces during the porcess and being in the bag.
The chips that make up a memory module for a computer are made with a substance called "silicon". Silicon comes from sand and yes that is the reason why that little area in central California was called "Silcon Valley".
