At this point, never. As long as you have a service provider (cable or satellite) you will still be able to watch television. The DTV transition will be on Feb 17th, 2009. All this means is that your tv with a bunny-ears antenna will not work anymore.

The rabbit antenna needs to be turned the right direction and have the two elements spread to collect enough RF signal. Powered antennas are best in some cases, that is ones that plug in to the ac wall socket. Also check the cable connection into the tv set antenna connector.
First, you need an antenna that is both uhf and vhf comaptible. Usuaully it will have a pair of rabbit ears (vhf) and a center loop or plate (uhf). Make sure the rabbit ears are completely extended then just re-scan your channels on your digital box or your hdtv.
