You need a security program for it like McAfee or Norton.

You should have some type of scanner on your system already. For a reliable and virus free scan go to malwarebytes site and do the quick scan. I know many people that use it and it is reputable. The quick scan is also free.

Here are some ways to keep your computer from being involved in computer crimes:

  • Be careful what you store about yourself on your computer.
  • If you don't need Wi-Fi, disable it so others cannot use your connection for criminal purposes.
  • Watch how your children use the computer to make sure they are not harassing others, bullying, making threats, plotting crimes, or downloading illegal content. Be careful who they contact or agree to meet.
  • Be careful what you download. Child porn is illegal. So is hosting or downloading content that violates copyright laws.
  • Be careful what you click on in emails. You might think you are on one site and be at a completely different one, and you could put your log-in information on a fake website. Or if you click the wrong link or run some suspicious software, you could install a computer virus. The virus may spam, cause your computer to help crash other computers, or steal your personal or financial data.

Block that person or virus... or get a new flashdrive and renew/update your security system on your computer. You're welcome! 

Can computer forensics be used when no crime is committed?

"Forensics" usually refers to identifying how a crime was committed and by whom. If no crime has been committed, there is no how or who to find. Information on how a crime was committed using a computer can help developers prevent it from occurring again in the future.
