- Viruses, adware and/or malware could, unknown to you, be running in the background and taking up resources that would otherwise be used by programs you choose to run
- You may have multiple windows open. Each window open will take up a certain amount of resources. Having too many windows open can slow down your computer
- You haven't got enough memory to support the program/programs you wish to run

Your computer registry is the powerhouse of your computer. If your windows registry is not free from damage and well organized, your system will become unbelievably slow and is likely to start freezing, and crashing. You should regularly clean your windows registry with and effective registry cleaning product to ensure that you computer is running fast and your registry is performing optimally.

∙ 9y agoThere can be several reasons why your computer is running slow.
1. You could have too many programs set to open at Start Up. To fix this go to your Startup menu and take the check mark out of programs like iTunes, Office, games, programs that are not anti-virus/anti-malware.
2. Your drive may be fragmented. Depending on your version of Windows you want "Disk Defragmenter" or "Optimize Hard Drive."
3. You may have out of date drivers. No help for it but to go through them one at a time and update them. To see your drivers go to "Device Manager." That's where you can find the make and model of your driver as well as update the driver after you'vedownloaded it if the driver is not in an exe file. If the driver is in an exe file all you have to do to update the driver is double click on the file.
4. This is the bad one... your hard drive may be having issues and need backed up then replaced before it dies.
