Teachers can play their part to limit the potential scope of this problem by teaching students how to use this double-edged sword, which is indispensable to survive and thrive in the 21st century.

There are bad things out there- violence, porn, etc. that can be bad influences. ONe succh influence, for example, is the choking game, where you choke yourself to death. Some people really do it, because it gives you a high just before you die. But it's painful. It's also dangerous because if a stalker (or child predator) finds out enough information about a person, they can find them and do things to them. Kidnp, murder, or other forms of abuse.

However, the internet can be safe if you use it wisely. To keep safe on the internet:

• Avoid sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace. However if you do ahave an account, don't give out too much information.
• NEVER give out your real full name, e-mail and/or physical address, age, or specific descriptions of yourself
• Be very, VERY cautious when searching pictures and videos
• Online friends are okay, but remember, just because someone seems legitamite, doesn't mean they are. Therefore, you probably should not date online.
• Never try to meet someone in real life if you only know them online.
• Scan for viruses regularly.

Because bad people know how to get information from young people and how to use it against them. When you are young you tend to look at things strictly from your point of view. Bad adults know this and know how to make you believe they are the only one around who understands you and can help you. Then, just by talking to you they can find out things you never thought you told them. I'll give you an example. He might say "is it raining at your house today" and then you'll tell him what the weather is like. He can look a t a weather map and get some idea of where you are and so on and so forth until you tell him something that zeros it in for him such as telling him your football team is called the Bulldogs or whatever. Now he knows the area you live in, the state and the city because he can find out what school uses a bulldogs mascot. So, you see, a predator has far more experience at hurting you than you have of protecting yourself. That is why the Internet can be dangerous for young people. Be careful.
