What is: a network (nodes that share information), or a processing cluster (nodes that share resources).
I use two terms because the intention behind them is different, but both share information and resources (just for different purposes).
Networks are created to share and/or pass information between nodes. Think "the internet". The intended use is to combine resources to share and propagate information. Think: people talking to each other to share news.
Clusters are created to share processing power by splitting complex tasks between many nodes and processing them concurrently (at the same time). The intended use is the exact opposite: to share information in order to combine resources.Think: people working with each other to build a house.
To complicate matters, networked nodes (ex. computers) can be used to form a cluster, and clustered nodes can be used to propagate information.
A network
In short, it is 2 or more computers connected together for the purpose of sharing information data or (less commonly) hardware. (The Internet is a really, really, REALLY big network...)
LAN ( Local Area Network )
It is simply a network of computers connected together by different communication channels that allow sharing of data and information.
Computer networks are collections of computers which are connected together in order to communicate and transfer information. Questions about computer...
a hub
a network.
router
An information system typically consists of hardware (computers, servers), software (applications, databases), data (information stored in databases), procedures (rules for handling data), and people (users, administrators). These elements work together to collect, process, store, and distribute information within an organization.
a network.
Networked computers.
Simple answer is a network, in which it is connected together via network cables, switches, hubs and/or routers. Another possible answer ( due to the broad scope of the description ) could be a server farm, failover cluster, or computer cluster. Each of which would need to researched separately.
