Most computer disk drives sold today will work with Mac OS X or Windows XP.
You may have problems with the boot.ini file. If you can get to the BIOS then it may be possible to repair Windows. You can continually hit F8 on startup and load the computer in Safe Mode. If this doesn't work you may want to use a backup disc to repair or reinstall the operating system.
The motherboard of the PC, which is operated by the BIOS.
The shut-down command.
There are many ways someone can repair the Windows black screen. Sometime it can be repaired by re-booting the computer. However is that doesn't work, it must be booted through safe mode.
No. The disk that came with the Dell laptop does not contain all the files that a full Windows XP installation disk comes with. Instead it will contain the files needed to install Windows XP on your Dell laptop. As Windows XP installs it will detect the hardware that your computer is constructed from (including the motherboard and processor) and install files that are specifically for that hardware. Your HP computer will have different hardware to the Dell, so the installation that is suitable for the Dell will not work properly on the HP.
put the cd into the disk drive then go to computer and right click on the disc section and click play
It is checking to see if a bootable disk (i.e. windows startup disk) is inserted. Obviously, if it didn't check + your computer didn't work then you wouldn't be able to use your startup disk.
The computer will power on, but it will not load windows. You will most likely get a black screen stating that the operating system disk can not be found. I would recommend unplugging the computer, plugging the power back into the hard drive and then re-plugging in the computer to get it to work properly.
There are a number of steps one must follow to repair Windows. One can use the repair functions within Windows to try and correct any problems. If that does not work one needs to reboot the computer with the Windows CD or DVD and press the required key to enter the boot menu where one can choose to boot from CD.
If Windows startup repair will not work then you need to contact support
