Opacity can only be changed with a Cutaway edit. Make sure Show Advanced Tools is ticked in the iMovie Preferences. Drag a clip from the browser over a clip in the project and select Cutaway from the menu of options. The added cutaway clip appears above the original clip. Double click the cutaway clip and you can change various settings, including the opacity, in the Inspector pane that appears.
No, these two applications are very different from each other. While both are editing programs from the Apple company, Imovie HD has effects, for example, "earthquake", that aren't on imovie 09. However Imovie 09 has effects like green screen and picture in picture.

When you download the latest version of iMovie to your Mac, it comes with previous versions. There is no possible way to update it. It is possible to get the latest iMovie in the iLife package or available for Purchase on the Mac App Store. Hope this helps.. :)
Honestly, the direct upload from iMovie is not the best thing to do. It is better to export the video file and upload it directly.
In Imovie HD, you can get the "squeaky voice" by going into audio fx, selecting pitch changer, and changing the slider around "chipmunk". However, if you have the Imovie '08/'09, the only thing you can do is speed up the video.
Mac uses iMovie '09 and Final Cut Express.

In Imovie HD, you can change the pitch of your voice by selecting audio fx, selecting pitch changer, and changing the slider to whatever selection you choose. However, if you have Imovie '09, the only way to change the pitch of your voice is to speed it up, or slow it down.
