$su $reboot or $sudo reboot
Exit back to home with the home button, swipe four fingers up, and press the X on the Kindle app icon (and all the other suspended apps as well). Relaunch app.

Check for power saving setting, check for the charge levels, also set up to fully charge to 100% then reboot completely by holding the home and power buttons for ten seconds
A lot of reviews have indicated that the wifi has had a problem with just simply connecting to the internet. Many of the sites I checked had resolved the problem with a simple hard reboot of the system. After initial reboot press and hold the wake button, if any problems persist take the unit back to the store with the original receipt!
