the SMTP server isn't based on the type of mail provider, it's based on the ISP gateway and what port is used you should be able to find out quite easily by typing 'SMPT servers' into Google. assuming u have that information correct hotmail shud be irrelevant to delivery.

You can only see the IP if you own your own server and the e-mail in question is on that server. That means e-mails such as Yahoo/Hotmail or G-Mail doesn't work for that.
