No a computer cannot think for itself it can only respond to the preprogrammed variables and instruction sets that a human has provided only when a true A,I, (Artificial Intelligence) is achieved will the computer be superior to man as emotion will not be part of the decision making process it would be based on the results of a probability of success v failure equation based on the available resource's and other variables to complete the given task. (the thing to think about here is would you give a true A.I. full control. i think not because in a logical world there's no place for the emotion based decisions that we make every day, The Terminator or Matrix springs to mind )
