- Hold Windows/flag-key and click E to open a folder window.
- Click Alt-key to show hidden menu.
- Click "Tools" -> "Folder options" and choose the "View" tab.
- Make sure "Hide extentions for known filetypes" are unchecked.
- Right click your file and choose rename.
- Change the file type after "." as you like.
Keep in mind by changing this you might harm the file, and if forgot to always leave the .filetype when naming something else will result in not being able to open the file. It's advised to check the hide extensions options again after the change.
Additional:
Some files like .docx can be changed with it's default software by choosing "Save as..." to for example .doc , and .doc can be changed to .PDF trough OpenOffice Writer's File menu and so on. Do your research!
