In the case of ethernet, you need a "crossover" ethernet cable connected between two regular ports or a regular ethernet cable connected to an "uplink port" on one switch and a regular port on the other. Uplink ports are sometimes called "MDI" ports.

Both types of cable are available at most computer and office supply stores.

How can you connect 4 routers to 6 switches?

A network can function fairly easily with just one router, the router is used to access the internet and in small home it is also the network switch that connects all the home computers together. It is not necessary to connect 4 routers together on the same network because each router will try to assign an ip-adress to each of the computers on the network resulting in many conflicts. If you did want to do this type of network (depending on your circumstances, i know of schools that use routers as small network switches for each room) then I suggest that you disable DHCP and all server attributes of the routers. Then you use a star network configuration for the 4 routers that are connected elsewhere, use long Ethernet cables to link the routers to a network switch each; from there have the 2 remaining network switches in the same room and have them in a redundancy layout. Connect the 4 router and switch pairs to the redundancy pair. This network is very inefficient and very costly but you have the capability to join a small office to a larger office four times over in the same network. It is not recommended that you do this.

List three types of intermediary devices?

Three types of intermediary devices include routers, switches, and access points. Routers connect different networks and direct data packets between them, while switches connect devices within the same network, facilitating communication by forwarding data to the appropriate device. Access points enable wireless devices to connect to a wired network, expanding network coverage and accessibility.

Could a hub let you connect computers together on the same network?

Yes. That is the designed function.

What will happen of you use all your ports in a network switch?

Nothing; the switch works the same if you use all ports, or only a few.If you need to connect additional computers, you can either get a larger switch, or connect two switches between themselves.Nothing; the switch works the same if you use all ports, or only a few.If you need to connect additional computers, you can either get a larger switch, or connect two switches between themselves.Nothing; the switch works the same if you use all ports, or only a few.If you need to connect additional computers, you can either get a larger switch, or connect two switches between themselves.Nothing; the switch works the same if you use all ports, or only a few.If you need to connect additional computers, you can either get a larger switch, or connect two switches between themselves.

How are computers located on a network?

The common topology in use today is the STAR. Hubs or switches are used to connect computers together like a "HUB". Switches are faster and better than a hub. Hubs, switches or servers are connected between each other by a "uplink" port that is specifically used to connect these devices together. There are 4,12,24,48,or 96 port hubs that can be purchased. Two hubs connected together with 96 ports would be able to serve 192 computers together. The possibilities are endless.

A technician installed a network adapter in a computer and wants to test the network connectivity the ping command can only receive a response from local workstations what could be the problem?

If you can connect to other computers on the same network, but you can't connect outside the network, the problem is quite often that the default gateway has not been configured correctly. If you can connect to other computers on the same network, but you can't connect outside the network, the problem is quite often that the default gateway has not been configured correctly. If you can connect to other computers on the same network, but you can't connect outside the network, the problem is quite often that the default gateway has not been configured correctly. If you can connect to other computers on the same network, but you can't connect outside the network, the problem is quite often that the default gateway has not been configured correctly.

What is bridge mode in routers?

Bridge mode allows to connect to geographically separate piece of the same network together. For instance you have one piece of the network in one building and another one in another building. You can't use a cable to connect them together. In such situation you might have to use a bridge.

What is used to interconnect hosts?

To interconnect hosts, various networking devices are used, including switches, routers, and hubs. Switches connect devices within the same local area network (LAN) by forwarding data based on MAC addresses, while routers connect different networks and direct data packets between them using IP addresses. Additionally, network cables, such as Ethernet cables, are used for physical connections between devices.

What is a cisco switch?

A Cisco switch is a piece of network hardware which has been manufactured by Cisco Systems. Usually Cisco switches are 'managed' switches, which means they can be accessed via the network and configured to perform advanced features such as VLANs, DHCP and routing. They are typically more expensive than a standard network switch and can cost up to tens of thousands of dollars.
