How do you get reedem codes?

Go onto the App Store ( iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad ) and go down until you find redeem code. Enter your code there.

For iPod Nano, and other old models of the iPod, go onto iTunes logged into your account and look for redeem code and enter your code there

there are 2 main types of redeem card a gift voucher which gives you a value of itunes credit ( these are attainiable in apple stores most game stores and most supermarkets) and there are personal redeem codes given to you by an app developer which can allow you to attain the app for free (using your voucher code)
