Click on the Start menu, then click Computer. Right click on the hard drive you would like to make a shortcut of, and click "Create Shortcut". A shortcut to your selected hard drive will then be placed on your desktop. Double click on your new shortcut to gain access your hard drive.
Go to Control panel, the drives are listed there. C Drive is the most common designation for a computer hard drive. Double click the icon and you are now in the local disk.
If you are talking about simply your computer's hard drive and disk space then it is simple. If you do not have a shortcut on your desktop for computer, click on start and then computer (0n the right column). Then your main hard drive and any other hard drives should appear. Click once on either (don't double click to enter) and then click properties to view basic overally memory and usage for the hard drive or double click and enter the hard drive, click on a folder or document within the hard drive, click properties and then the memory for that individual item will come up. HDD stands for Hard drive disk. The HDD is what all your files are saved to. It a double sided disk that is build to be read at extremely high speeds.

to format the hard disk go to My computer perform right click go to manage will open the window computer Management->storage->Disk Management(local) select the disk drive right click and once again click onto the format button see to that the file system should be in NTFS format
Go to Control Panel and double click on the "C Drive' Icon. (Assuming C is the letter for your hard disk). Then on a free area inside the window, right click and select 'properties' then 'tools'. It should be there.
